Spring Drive Trail

Trail connecting neighborhoods to Cherokee Park and providing safer access

A new gravel trail on Spring Drive runs to the Cherokee Park Loop, connecting the Bonnycastle Neighborhood to Cherokee Park, funded by donations to the Highlands-Douglass neighborhood and built by HDNA volunteers.

As part of the HDNA approved neighborhood plan from 2006, the Board, community, Louisville Metro, and Metro Council recommended forming “better connections to provide safer bicycle/pedestrian access to Cherokee Park“.

As part of the Cherokee and Bonnycastle neighborhood plan, it “recommends that the existing unpaved foot path leading to Cherokee Park be dedicated and widened to a width of 6 to 8 feet. Consider adding signage to this park entrance.

While this trail was not in the boundaries of HDNA, we still knew making it more pleasant and safer would appeal to HDNA residents. After raising $10,000 for the trail supplies of compactable gravel and wood edging, HDNA organized volunteers to build the trail in June of 2024 with the help of Olmsted and Metro Parks.
